| The American pianist, Peter Vinograde, studied at the Manhattan School of Music with Zenon Fishbein. His numerous distinctions began with first prize in the 1971 J.S. Bach International Competition, followed by his New York debut at Carnegie Recital Hall and an N.E.A.-sponsored Lincoln Center recital at Alice Tully Hall.
An outstanding interpreter of J.S. Bach and contemporary composers, Peter Vinograde annually tours the USA, Canada, and Asia. His most recent Asian appearances have included two China tours, one solo and another with the Macao Orchestra, and recitals in Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, and Thailand with violinist Midori Gotō. He celebrated Bach’s birthday in 2007 at New York’s Austrian Cultural Forum, playing the Goldberg Variations. This season, the Goldbergs will continue to be featured, in lecture/recital form, at USA universities and conservatories. In addition, this spring’s concerts in Canada include J.S. Bach’s D minor and F minor Concerti, paired with the Goldberg Variations (BWV 988). This April 2007, he was the featured pianist with members of the Brooklyn Philharmonic in the Music Off the Walls series at the Brooklyn Museum. His latest USA tours featured Beethoven’s 3rd Concerto and Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue. World premiere performances have included Nicolas Flagello’s Concerto No. 3 (1962) with Nicholas Palmer and the Owensboro (KY) Symphony, and Hal Campbell’s Piano Concerto (1997) in Utah. Frequently heard on National Public Radio, his National Gallery programs have aired on Performance Today, and he was featured on CBC-TV’s the Journal. As a chamber musician, he has appeared as a guest artist at the Bard, Bargemusic, Cape Cod, Caramoor, Mostly Mozart, and Wolftrap Festivals. Summer activities include the Burgos and Amati Music Festivals. In February, 2008, Peter Vinograde and David Calhoun will present Beethoven’s complete cello sonatas at the Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church, where Vinograde has appeared annually since 1991. Each recital will also feature the USA premiere of a work for cello and piano: Michael Matthews’ Song Fragments and Alfred Fisher’s Credo.
